Our
Thanks
Thanks to the Tulsa Chapter of the
American Association of University Women for hosting Girls Inc. at their
last meeting. We enjoyed the opportunity to present Girls Inc's vision
and to meet all the members involved with your group. For more
information on AAUW visit their website here.
We also extend our thanks
to the Women and Gender Studies Program at TU for having Gloria Miller, our
Executive Director, kick off their lecture series in January with a talk
on Tulsa County girls. Also, for letting Girls Inc participate in two
benefit performances of the Vagina Monologues, which helped raise funds
for DVIS.
If you are involved in a group or
organization interested in girls or women's issues and wish to have
Girls Inc. present about our program and vision, please

Girls Inc. News
She Votes 2008
We are excited to announce that
Girls Inc. will be kicking off the 2008 election year with She Votes
2008. We are planning several community speaker events and an
interactive program for girls to learn about politics, recruit voters,
and even blaze their own campaign trail. Girls Inc. will be going to
local high schools, encouraging voting, educating about government
process, and launching a program for girls to get involved in their own
campaign to become elected onto our girls advisory board.
This year’s presidential race is
historic for girl and woman kind. 2008 is the first year offering a
viable female presidential candidate, and we see it as a phenomenal
opportunity for girls to be able to see themselves as future candidates
and even as future presidents. Girls Inc supports all women to get
involved in politics, exercise their rights as voters, and even run for
office. Girls Inc. of Tulsa County does not align itself with a party
affiliation but encourages active involvement in the political process.
Contact us for more information. And
check back for events and updates.
Talk - The Supergirl Dilemma: The State of Our Girls
Girls Inc.
and the
Department of Community Services at Tulsa Community College hosted an interdisciplinary talk on The Supergirl Dilemma on November 12th at TCC
Northeast Campus. The talk centered loosely around nation-wide study conducted for Girls Inc. which
indicates that as girls get older they feel mounting pressure from
friends, parents, and teachers to be perfect, thin, accommodating, and
accomplished. Speakers discussed their own research about
different aspects of girls' experiences in our culture.
